Kleis Relay Setup and Recovery
Kleis Relay transfers new Planning Center-hosted sermon audio to SermonAudio. Relay runs independently of the WordPress plugin. Access is invite-only and free for your first three months. Version 1.0 supports one broadcaster per church connection.
Connect your accounts
Section titled “Connect your accounts”- Open the Relay dashboard.
- Enter the email address that received your invitation.
- Select Email me a sign-in link.
- Open the link in your email within 15 minutes.
- Enter your SermonAudio broadcaster ID and API key.
- Confirm that your church has the rights to upload the media.
- Select Save SermonAudio.
- Select Connect Planning Center.
- Authorize the Planning Center organization that owns your Publishing channels.
- Select the channels that Relay must watch.
- Choose a SermonAudio event type for each selected channel.
- Select Save channels and activate.
Relay watches episodes published after each channel’s activation time. It does not import existing episode history. It transfers Planning Center-hosted audio, rather than externally hosted media.
Titles and series
Section titled “Titles and series”Relay sends the main sermon title within the destination’s 85-character limit. It does not generate a separate short title. Existing short titles remain unchanged.
Relay uses the Planning Center series by default. Under Series overrides, you can select an existing SermonAudio series for each source series. Overrides apply on the next episode sync. Saving does not immediately change past sermons.
To restore the default, select Use Planning Center series (default) and save.
Transfer activity
Section titled “Transfer activity”The dashboard shows the episode, activity, status, details, and last update time. Linked episodes include an Open in SermonAudio link. Activity refreshes automatically. The Refresh, Older, and Newer controls support manual review.
Hover over or focus a Skipped status to see the reason. The Details column also shows the reason. On each activity page, skipped updates for the same episode within five minutes appear in one row. Select Show updates to see each event, its reason, and its Retry control. Select Hide updates to collapse the row. Automatic refresh pauses while a group is expanded.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Queued | Relay accepted the event and awaits processing. |
| Transferring | Relay is processing the episode. |
| Transferred | SermonAudio accepted the upload. Its audio processing can continue afterward. |
| Waiting to retry | Relay will retry a temporary failure or wait for the daily limit reset. |
| Skipped | The episode is outside the selected channels, predates activation, has no eligible audio, or is unavailable or unpublished. |
| Unpublished | Relay unpublished the linked sermon after the source became unavailable or unpublished. |
| Needs attention | The transfer requires corrected credentials, corrected source data, or support review. |
If an episode has no audio yet, Relay waits for a later Planning Center update. If the source audio changes, Relay uploads the replacement to the linked sermon. If the source is unpublished or deleted, Relay unpublishes the linked sermon without deleting it.
Retry and daily limits
Section titled “Retry and daily limits”Relay permits 30 eligible sync attempts per connection per UTC day. Retries of eligible episodes count toward this limit. Skipped episodes, unpublish, and deletion do not consume this allowance. Quota-deferred transfers resume automatically after midnight UTC.
Temporary provider failures retry automatically with a bounded retry budget. If a transfer needs corrected credentials or source data, correct the cause before you select Retry. A manual retry receives a fresh retry budget.
If the details request support review, contact Kleis support. Include the episode ID and the displayed error code. Do not include API keys, sign-in links, or signed media URLs. Relay stops uncertain sermon or series creation before another create can produce a duplicate.
Pause or disconnect
Section titled “Pause or disconnect”Under Connection controls, select Pause Relay to stop transfers. Pause preserves credentials, selected channels, pending work, and sermon mappings. To resume, save your selected channels. Saving with no selected channels also pauses Relay.
To end the connection, select Disconnect Relay and confirm the action. Disconnect removes the stored connection credentials and stops pending transfers. Your SermonAudio sermons remain in place.
If Planning Center is unavailable during disconnect, the dashboard reports incomplete webhook cleanup. When access returns, delete the old Kleis Relay webhook subscriptions for that connection in Planning Center.
Renew credentials or change accounts
Section titled “Renew credentials or change accounts”For the same SermonAudio broadcaster, update the API key under Update API credentials. For the same Planning Center organization, select Reconnect Planning Center. After you correct a connection that requires reconnection, save your channels to resume.
To change the broadcaster or Planning Center organization, disconnect Relay first. Then create a new connection. The new connection watches episodes published after its activation. It does not reuse mappings from the previous accounts.
Sign out and retained records
Section titled “Sign out and retained records”Select Sign out to revoke the current session. Signing out does not pause Relay.
Relay deletes expired sign-in links, sessions, and authorization states automatically. Completed and skipped transfer records remain for up to 90 days. Failed transfers and non-secret mappings remain available for recovery and duplicate prevention. Contact support to request deletion of retained account data.
